1903 Bukit Timah Truss Bridge

A place that seeks to be discovered and visited.

People can explore several historical places in Singapore. Most of these do not have entrance fees or payment to get there.
One of these places is the Bukit Timah railway truss bridge, a part of an old railway system in the country.
A long-time landmark along Upper Bukit Timah Road, the bridge was part of the Bukit Timah Railway. Trains coming from the Tanjong Pagar Railway Station, the train driver will drop off a token for the next journey to Johor, Malaysia. This was one of the main purposes of this railway line.
Bukit Timah Railway system was officially closed in 2011 and this bridge, along with some of the railway tracks, was one of the structures retained by the government when the handover of the land between Singapore and Malaysia happened.

This bridge is part of the Rail Corridor, a 100-hectare master plan by the Urban Redevelopment Authority in Singapore. This 24-kilometre long "green corridor" is a shared recreational space from southern part (Tanjong Pagar Railway Station) to northern part (Woodlands Checkpoint) of Singapore where lush greeneries and an escape from the intensity of urban living can be found. This is an extraordinary public space because of its length and features.

  1. The two bridges of which this is one were built for the 1932 Diversion, not in 1903.
